Description

Cozied-up together in their teacup-sized nest, these two juvenile broad-tailed hummingbirds (Selasphorus platycercus) have yet to develop their colorful adult plumage. As they grow bigger, the nestĀ—built of spiderweb, lichen, moss, and barkĀ—will stretch to accommodate them, finally flattening into a platform suitable as a launching pad for that first, brave flight. The broad-tailed hummingbird lives at high elevations in the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Nevada, and Mexico's Sierra Madre. It likes open, subalpine meadows where it can gorge on nectar from its favorite wildflowers, which include Indian paintbrush, columbine, and sage, among others. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this product supports the Sierra Club's efforts to preserve and protect the planet. - INDIVIDUAL ITEM RRP Ā£2.28
