Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 18411919) Dance at Bougival, 1883 Throughout his career, Pierre-August Renoir's work was as immutably personal as that of any painter since the Renaissance. A first-generation Impressionist, he was a close associate of Monet, Manet, Sisley, and Pissarro, but he had no great interest in the theories that underlay their work. To Renoir, painting was about colorin the mastery of which he was without equaland joyful, truthful, sensual expression of the pleasures to be found in everyday life. He worked himself hard in pursuit of this expression, never completely trusting his ability to capture and transform the human figure. But his work and worry are never perceptible in his bold but delicate, loving portrayals of people delighting in their hard-earned leisure. - INDIVIDUAL ITEM RRP £1.99
