Eldzier Cortor (American, 1916Ā2015) Island Souvenir, III, 1998 Stately and elegant, the figures that inhabit Eldzier Cortor's paintings embody the enduring black spirit he painted throughout his career. He studied the Gullah community of the Sea Islands off the coast of Georgia and the Carolinas, and its flourishing culture and preserved heritage, despite a history of slavery, became his muse. He continued on to paint in Jamaica and Cuba, then spent two years in Haiti, where he taught at Le Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince. - INDIVIDUAL ITEM RRP £1.99
