Galapagos hawks
Photograph by Art Wolfe
The Galapagos hawk (Buteo galapagoensis) is one of the many species whose range extends only to certain islands in the isolated Galapagos, off the coast of Ecuador. This hawk inhabits a variety of territories on the islands, including shorelines, deciduous forests, lava fields, and mountains. It also has no natural predators and is a skilled hunter with many food sources. Despite this, human interference has reduced the Galapagos hawk's populations to the point that it is now considered vulnerable.
