Resident of the Andes, the James's flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) lives in alkaline lakes of Bolivia, Peru, Chile, and Argentina at elevations nearing ten thousand feet. Also known as the puna flamingo, it is the rarest of its family, despite a population size estimated at around one hundred thousand
