Beth Van Hoesen (American, 1926Ā2010)
Magnolia Bud, 1977
In preparation for one of her delicately executed prints, Beth Van Hoesen once said she might make dozens of drawings. Over decades of work, the Stanford-educated San Francisco artist became known for her finely crafted animal and flower prints, which exhibit careful use of texture and striking composition. She aimed to get to the essence of the thing she was observing, be it a flower or a turkey vulture, and always in her own crisp expressive realism.
Van Hoesen made fifty prints for Magnolia Bud; her twenty-fifth imprint in the run appears here. More on her work can be found in Beth Van Hoesen: Flora and Fauna (Pomegranate, 2014). - INDIVIDUAL ITEM RRP Ā£1.992
