Chances are this Siberian chipmunk isn't so much stopping to smell the flowers, as it is stopping to eat them. Pine nuts are this species' meal of choice, but the Siberian chipmunk (Eutamias sibiricus) eats a variety of other seeds along with herbs, insects, and mollusks. Naturally present in much of Russia, as well as parts of China, Japan, Mongolia, and the Korean Peninsula, it has been introduced in parts of Western Europe.
