William S. Rice (American, 1873Ā1963)
The Watchman, c. 1930
One of the most gifted block print artists of the American Arts and Crafts movement, William S. Rice made humble yet stunning images that could be displayed harmoniously in Craftsman-style bungalows. A masterful watercolorist, distinguished teacher, and avid outdoorsman, Rice found enduring inspiration in natureĀfrom sweeping vistas to single blossoms. His practice of working steadily, both as an artist and teacher, brought about a profusion of published articles and two teaching texts, several generations of grateful students, and seemingly endless watercolors, drawings, photographs, and prints of all kinds. Pomegranate publishes more of his work in the book William S. Rice: Art and Life (2013). - INDIVIDUAL ITEM RRP Ā£1.992
