Amitabha (Amida) Triad Descending from Heaven, c. 1745Ā1755, Edo period
Two attendants accompany Buddha Amitabha, or Amida in Japan, in his descent from heaven to welcome the souls of the dying to the land over which he reigns. This painting depicts Seishi Bodhisattva, who represents wisdom and is shown to the left of Amitabha in the triad.
